Hi;
I'm setting up some installs for a friend new to Linux and Mint. Of course I wanted to set up multiple desktops, but it was a bit difficult to find the info, (it was so long ago, I had forgotten). I did a bit of digging found the applet and activated it.
The problem is you only get 2 desktops, (I have 6 on my installs). I can't find out how to set the number, I thought you right-clicked on one of the numbers, but no.
So, just how do you increase the number of desktops?
Thanks.

Re: Multiple Desktops
Look for something in your menu with "workspaces" in the name. In Xfce, it's Menu > Settings > Workspaces
Re: Multiple Desktops
Depends upon which desktop environment you are using. XFCE? MATE? Cinnamon? KDE?

Jimallyn: I'm using Cinnamon.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Multiple Desktops
Ctrl+Alt+Upwards arrow key will get you into Expo mode, where you can click the plus sign at the right hand edge to add more workspaces. There is an applet available to get to Expo mode with one click if you prefer that.

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Re: Multiple Desktops
Edit - beaten to it by Moem....
If you've got the workspace-switcher applet installed you should be able to right click on the applet to bring up a menu one of whose options is "Add another workspace"
Alternatively, you should be able to access 'Expo' view with the keyboard shortcut - Ctrl-Alt-Up Arrow. In expo view there is a button on the right edge of the screen to add additional workspaces.

Re: Multiple Desktops
I wonder, if the OP really means workspaces, if he writes about desktops. There is one point in the starting post, which does not match: Cinnamon has by default 4 workspaces, not 2.
Re: Multiple Desktops
Hi, and thank you all for your solutions.
Moem's solution is really cool.
Smurphos 's jogged my memory and seems to be what I remember doing originally. Before I wrote this post I had tried it, because that is what I remember doing, but It did not work.
I found this command line solution:
gsettings set org.cinnamon number-workspaces 4 (the number equals the number of workspaces you want) .
Cosmo: When I went to the "applets" box and activated "workspaces" it inserted two desktops.
The friend I set up the install for asked me if those desktops are customise-able. I told him no, but just to be sure, was I right about that?
Thanks again.

Re: Multiple Desktops
Then you must have removed the other 2, maybe by error.
This depends, which customizing your friend means. The number of workspaces: yes, doable. Different backgrounds and desktop icons: no, not doable (in Cinnamon).
