Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”
I keep checking every day for 19 to be available with a love/hate, Loving mint on my three PC's and hate the idea of re-installing 19 on all of them but will. I probably won't update the game server pc for a bit though. This laptop and the Main PC will get the update asap when 19 arrives, I'm liking XFCE a lot and getting pretty familiar with it; Meaning I'm not blowing up the PC once a week anymore and that's a good thing Learning where to keep my fingers out of has helped a lot and Timeshift is a life saver.
Thanks Mint Team your awesome....

I just wanna ask; Is there any new info on 19? Is it almost ready? I LOVE this project, I check for info almost every day.

Yes Mint19 will have Cinnamon 3.8. Mint18.3 has Cinnamon 3.6.deepakdeshp wrote: ⤴Sat May 12, 2018 5:05 am Will Cinnamon 3.8 be pacakaged with Tara?

When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

Will the 4.4.x kernels be available via the update manager? There is a lot of hardware not fully supported under the later kernels and it would be nice if those that need 4.4.x could install it and keep it up to date via the update manager.

I have heard a car model named "Nova" didn't go well in Spanish speaking countries, because it means "No go". Is that what you're thinking of?absque fenestris wrote: ⤴Mon May 14, 2018 4:03 pm There was a VW (Volkswagen) brand that was - Well!...not exactly correct in Spanish. O.K. this are cars - I had my doubts in Mint about "U" - but what in "V"... - I have 2 warnings here in the Mint Forums - so I can't go into it any further.

English is THE international language worldwide, why should we worry if English words translate into something different in foreign languages. In English the word doss means to sleep and is often applied to tramps and down and outs, do you think Microsoft worried about that when they invented their original OS, DOS!

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”
I don't think so - it's going to be based on Ubuntu 18.4 which has 4.15 as it's LTS - so initially 19 will only have 4.15 kernels officially supported.pcspecialistpdx wrote: ⤴Mon May 14, 2018 12:14 pm Will the 4.4.x kernels be available via the update manager? If someone had unsupported hardware but could at least boot from 4.15 I guess it should be possible to manually install a 4.4 kernel via deb packages downloaded from https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/kernel/ - obviously untested at this point and I'm not sure what side-effects if any might come with doing this.
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”
Omitting the name of Tara, the news of the version 19 ????? in addition to those announced .. will there be software improvements and implementations?
- notification center, integration with calendar and thunderbird mail ... (also thanks to online-account and gnome-calendar)
By now everyone is looking for a notification panel, which can even manage social networks ..
A kind of dashboard that can be displayed on request to get an overview (full screen,..) , where even collect data from custom scripts ... Or as an implementation of the display of all the desklets together, joined in the dashboard (Deepin / ElementaryOS /Budgie ...SolusOS, have the notification sidebar , like Apple ...) (Linux Mint can do it !!!)
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/1614
The return of a CinnaDock? or the possibility to convert the panel to the dock (using the Icing Task Manager applet ..)
As for Nemo, FEATURES REQUEST are numerous .. we hope they are inserted as soon as possible (maybe the miller column view ...)

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”
From everything you've said above it sounds to me like you're using the wrong distro. Mint Cinnamon is awesome and I personally don't want any of the features you mentioned./ Cinnamon is very elegant, clean looking, functional and highly customizable as it is. And Nemo is awesome. Sounds like Ubuntu Budgie would be more up your street. I love Cinnamon because, to me it's what Gnome 3 should have been. I do agree with the notifications and I do think the Cinnamon calender on the panel should be more interactive.stefanoful wrote: ⤴Wed May 16, 2018 5:33 pm Omitting the name of Tara, the news of the version 19 ????? in addition to those announced .. will there be software improvements and implementations?

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”
I for one am looking forward to Mint 19 in its current form, whatever it may be.
I currently have my travel laptop waiting for it. Tried the new Ubuntu 18.04 build in the three main versions, Gnome, KDE, and Mate. So far, I miss my Mint install.
So I just keep checking 3 or 4 times a day to see if it has dropped.
