Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
Hello,
I tried the graphic software 'Krita' together with my Wacom Cintiq 24 HD display / tablet.
The pen and presure works fine, but the express keys of the Cintiq tablet don't work.
I also don't see an option to configure the keys in the preferences. Only to set the buttons of the pen.
Is the lack for configuring Wacom Express keys a known problem in Linux Mint?
Can it be solved? Because I really need this keys.
System: Linux Mint 18.3 - Software: Krita - Computer: AMD 1700x, 32 GB ram

Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
Does anybody have an idea to solve this and let the express keys work?
Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
In Mint; the mate system does not have a config button
sadly, there are very few, if any, experts on all this stuff; ArtGirl on this forum uses tablets; we hope she might see this; I think she has now left the forum; her username seems to have disappeared
but Cinnamon does have a config icon;
Clem was going to work on tablets; not sure if Mint 19 can offer more things;
Google could be your friend; that is the only way really to sort through all the stuff
here is a Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxRLdUB1v10 and the one after to also edit Express keys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEZK7reJqoQ
and here is a blog http://bartssolutions.blogspot.com/2015 ... press.html
your username suggests you are a keen illustrator; if you can get all this stuff sorted, it would be helpful to forum to post what worked; please keep us updated
...............
here is yet another link from last year:
https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/guideli ... tons/15607
sorry: you have to patiently work through this but do ask for guidance/help/support/interpretations as you think we could help you
________
amazing what one can find when one hunts around; I enclose a screenshot of the directory /usr/share/libwacom and there are files there for each of the known devices;
if you do then it opens the config file for the cintiq 24 in READ-ONLY mode so you can't break it at the first look; cintiq-24hd-touch.tablet
and there is another file ..... in linux you are likely going to have to lift the bonnet; get some grease on your hands; and change some spark-plugs

Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
...try Mint 19 Beta, most likely it should work out of the box. In any case, try testing such in Live Mode, even if only for future reference.
Some quick googling ("Cintiq 24HD xenial") returned this =>
https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/bugs/317/
https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/bugs/315/
Mint 19 already has newer libraries, so now you see why it should be easier to figure this out.
For Mint 18:
Back-up your data & use Timeshift. Then:
Oh, by the way, did I already mentioned that you should absolutely have used Timeshift & also backed-up your stuff before attempting such?
Yes, i did - so far so good, now reboot. If you're lucky, it will most likely work out of the box, but if not:

.....Not being able to use the buttons means I can't realisticly use affected distros.

Yes, i did - so far so good, now reboot. If you're lucky, it will most likely work out of the box, but if not:
- if on Cinnamon, as already mentioned above, there's a gui tool which you could try tweaking.
- If under a different desktop, try toying around with xsetwacom & *wacom.conf as suggested under #315 above.
Maybe also ask there for extra assistance if you feel that there's some step that still escapes you.
Thumbs up.
Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
I am an Illustrator and new to Linux.
I discovered something interesting:
When I type on the Terminal: xsetwacom --list devices
Then it only recognices the Pen stylus and eraser.
Maybe that's the reason that in the graphic tablet preferences it only shows buttons to configure my pen.
It's like there is a part missing to let linux know that there's a tablet (screen) with express keys too.
I do search on the internet, but from the moment it gets technical it's dificult to follow for me.

Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
I think I found a possible solution in this link:
https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/bugs/315/
At the end of the topic it says:
- quote -
Fix available through a combination of xf86-input-wacom 0.33.0 and xf86-input-libinput 0.19.0
- end quote -
If this is a solution I would like to try it, but I don't know what it means. Do I have to install something?

Wacom Cintiq 24 HD
Pascal; the link you found is two years old; I would leave it at that; they will have updated much since then; that is an OLD thread;
however the link points you to this https://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxwacom/ and Jason Gerecke is still thankfully very active on the forum; this is the place for enthusiasts like you
1) your first comment was
did you watch the two YouTube videos I gave the link to; I thought they were good: we would be thrilled if you could succeed in all of this; can you try doing what the videos suggest ....... to configure the buttons? Please watch the 2 videos
2) I suggest you sign up to the mailing list for the Wacom tablet project: https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/ma ... m-discuss/
An illustrator would be most welcome there; you may find lots of advice and support there too;
3) I would limit how many extra programmes you go and load on to your system immediately: the H24 has been around for a while; best try to get it working with what you have; would be my suggestion

so my sense is many of these devices work "out of the box" in that you can draw immediately; but you need to configure buttons; if you want to use buttons;The pen and presure works fine, but the express keys of the Cintiq tablet don't work./

Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
Yes - what i posted above. Make sure to make a back-up & then follow the instructions - it's merely a one-liner:If this is a solution I would like to try it, but I don't know what it means. Do I have to install something?
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-all-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-libinput-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-wacom-hwe-16.04
If it still doesn't work out of the box, ask in the mailing list.
That the link is 2 yrs old doesn't change nothing, exactly because it's the still the same ancient buggy libs installed:...the link you found is two years old; I would leave it at that; they will have updated much since then; that is an OLD thread;
bugs get solved with updates, not due to time passing by 'as is'...
If those library versions didn't worked back in 2016, i'm fairly certain they're not gonna work automagically 2 yrs later.
Good luck.

Search with Synaptic Packet Manager for "KDE Wacom" - there you will find a Wacom configuration program.Pascal Illustrator wrote: ⤴Sat Jun 09, 2018 3:33 am ...

Maybe it'll help you set it up.

Re: Wacom express keys not working in Mint 18.3
So I had another question about the Krita drawing software.
It works and I can use it, but it don't appear in the menu (left bottom of the screen).
I tried the following link, but Krita don't appear in the menu editor either.
How can I solve this?
