Why is exfat not functional in Gparted ?

Why is exfat format type not functional (greyed out) in Gparted ?

I have read several articles/posts on this subject but none that have lead
to a successful answer as to how exfat can be used in Gparted.

GParted does not at this point in time support creating an exfat filesystem; only supports basic move/copy operations; no operations for which it has to actually understand exfat structures itself: https://gparted.org/features.php.

Seems the KDE partitition manager does understand exfat.

If that is the case, then why is exfat listed on Gparted (but is greyed out). If it does not FULLY support
it then why would it just NOT be shown at all ?

Undoubtedly as an uninteresting internal GParted implementation detail. I.e., GParted likely abstract/wraps its known filesystems with objects implementing or not implementing the in that above URL's table listed GParted actions; populating that format-to-type list is then equally likely a simple enumeration over all types, but greyed out when the "create" action is not actually supported; exFAT is a known type due to the limited actions which are supported for it; detect, move, copy.

Other than that also likely since further exFAT support is desired but, undoubtedly again, for the moment frustrated by the patent situation regarding exFAT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT. That is, things are probably set up and just waiting for better legal days. Feel free to go find that bit out

Try to install exfat-utils packages forum the support to exfat

Doesn't do anything for gparted.
