Only post ideas here that are specifically about the Linux Mint distribution or its websites.
So that developers and users from any distribution can discuss ideas in one place, post ideas about improving software to the collaboration website for that software instead.
1) Not only is WINE not essential, it is undesirable IMO. If you want to run win software, I think virtual machines - a la vmware, virtualbox, etc. are a better option.
2) HD diagnostic tools that get into tracks, sectors, heads, etc. strike me as special purpose software and not really part of an OS. Something that the user could install if desired is probably the better way to go IMO.
Full time Linux Mint user since 2011 - Currently running mostly LM19C and a little LM20C.
