Since updating to Firefox 61 on Mint 19 I'm noticing slow page loads. At first I thought something was wrong with my Internet, but my Internet speed is fine. So I tried Chromium and pages are loading very fast using it on Mint 19. On the same Machine Firefox ESR is also fast on Debian 9. The only thing that makes sense is the recent update to Firefox 61 is running slower. I turned off hardware acceleration and no difference.
Is anyone else noticing a slow down in page loading with Firefox 61?

Re: Firefox 61
Hello, KBD47.
I have not noticed any issue with Firefox 61 so far. Yet, Mozilla has fixed a number of bugs, which seem to have been introduced by Firefox 61.0, in version 61.0.1. Cf. Firefox 61.0.1 Release Notes
So perhaps you will have to wait for Firefox 61.0.1 to hit the repos.
Alternatively you can always try to figure out whether the problem is caused by some setting, some extension in your personal Mozilla profile, by starting up Firefox 61 "with disabled add-ons" (available from the help sub-menu)
Regards,
Karl

Ctrl+Shift+i, go to the Network tab, press Ctrl+F5 to see what's slowing down the page load. You can do the same on Chromium to compare.
Note that some pages are optimized for Chromium (the google owned ones) so don't use those.

Re: Firefox 61
Something definitely went wrong for me with this update I disabled my extensions one by one and restarted Firefox, but no change. And I figured out it isn't just loading web pages, it is slow to start even. 60 was fine, not sure why it slowed down with 61.karlchen wrote: ⤴Sun Jul 08, 2018 3:44 am Hello, KBD47.

Re: Firefox 61
I'm not sure what I'm looking at or looking for when I do that.
Re: Firefox 61
I decided to just remove Firefox and try Firefox-esr instead. I found the ppa here:
https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
Edit: That took care of it. Firefox ESR is zipping along like it's supposed to. Not sure what happened with Firefox 61, but I have thought for awhile now that Firefox is updating too much too quickly, not the first time I've had trouble with its current release. ESR releases on the other hand are stable and work well for me.

I also have FF 61.0 and it has never given me any trouble at all on 18.3 Cinnamon
Re: Firefox 61
I'm not sure it makes a difference, but I'm using it on the Xfce version of Mint. Right away I noticed the slowdown after the update. Firefox ESR is working like Firefox did before the update to version 61. My hardware didn't like something about the new version if I'm the only one having issues.

I only use FF, and have a ASUS TP500L with Cinnamon, and an Acer Aspire 5253 64bit with xcfe and FF works fine with both.
