successful install of Canon LBP3100 laser printer

Post by pdc_2 »

I installed Linux Mint a week ago; and am very pleased with it; we have a Canon LBP 3100; and to my delight it has installed uneventfully;

I used an amalgam of

http://www.unixmen.net/index.php?option ... s&Itemid=2

and an earlier Ubuntu post

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Hardw ... n_LBP_2900

the only useful extra from the Ubuntu was how to locate the ppd file
$ ls /usr/share/cups/model/ | grep CNCUPS
I essentially copied and pasted the commands from the unixmen post; (adding appropriate descriptors for printer and ppd file);

these printers seem to cause some folks some problems; but now Canon offer .deb as well as their initial .rpm packages, all seems to go well

I have followed the same steps but cannot get my printer to print. The drivers (V1.6) install OK and evertythig appears OK but no output. Any ideas?

CNCUPSLBP3300CAPTK.ppd
CNCUPSLBP3500CAPTJ.ppd
CNCUPSLBP3500CAPTK.ppd
CNCUPSLBP3600CAPTJ.ppd
CNCUPSLBP5000CAPTJ.ppd

CNCUPSLBP5100CAPTJ.ppd

There is no LBP3100 there?

Thanks

To those users still struggling with a Canon printer, this was my solution:

1. search for a supplier who provides good Linux support. This came up as HP.
2. Search Ebay for an equivalent HP printer - HP Laserjet P1102W
3. Bid and hopefully win the auction. If all else fails, buy a new one.
4. Replace Canon with HP printer.
5. Google for instructions to install. Unfortunately, you still need supplier software, but I don't know why.
6. HPLIP is the HP software. Get the instructions and follow them to install.
7. Advertise your U/S Canon printer on Ebay and hope you cover your costs.

I spent about 6 hours trying various solutions to make the Canon work. All to no avail. It took me less than 1 hour to install the HP and get it working.
I am not an agent for HP or Ebay, just an experienced user. Sometime or other you have to 'pull the plug'. I am now a happy HP user.
