Kernel 4.15.0-24

I have been reading quite a bit of stuff about 4.15.0-24 being buggy, and bad.

got to wondering about what I am running, and sure enough, it is 4.15.0-24

I have not had any issues with my ASUS TP500L running kernel 4.15.0-24 so far,
so, is there any valid reason for me to back up to the previous kernel?

Probably not necessary. There is an ext4 related bug in -24 that can lead to some file system corruption, that's probably the only reason why you would downgrade if you are not having any other issues otherwise. However, -24 also came with a long list of other fixes that you might not want to give up.

I was using the 4.15.0-24 on 2 different laptops, one with Linux Mint and one with Ubuntu and had no issues, my Ubuntu laptop has the testing repos enabled an it is currently using 4.15.0-28

that backs up my own thoughts, as I have not had a single issue since it upgraded back whenever that was.

18.3 Cinnamon is running soooo smooth for me, it is almost scary.

The problems in Linux Mint 18 with that kernel mostly have involved dkms modules used for Nvidia graphics and Broadcom wifi

Neither of which exist on this ASUS laptop.
so, I skated right past the issues.

I haven't had any issues with it and one PC has both nvidia and broadcom, and this one has broadcom.

Back at the end of June, when I clean installed LM19 I found there were issues with this 24 kernel. I had to do a re-install but kept the 4.15.0.23 that seemed to be part of the install and blacklisted version 24. Kernel 4.15.024 is still blacklisted. Since using LM for almost a year I have always done all updated/upgrades including kernels - without issues. The exception was Chromium browser which I did not want.
I believe there will be another kernel i the near future.

Eventually. They keep finding new bugs with -24. The upcoming version for bionic-proposed is -30 now already.

you and me both, I detest Chromium, it is a junk browser IMO.
it does nothing right, starting with Bookmarks which it does not handle adequately at all.
if a bookmark cannot be accessed directly from the keyboard, then that browser is junk.
Firefox is the only browser that does it correctly by allowing me to put bookmarks into Sorted Sub-Folders.

My problem with Firefox is the lack of proper hardware accelerated video decoding, which matters in particular on a laptop (pushing 1080p video through the CPU heats that thing up quite a bit and drains the battery). Chromium's UX is terrible but at least builds with GPU decoding enabled are readily available.

Vivaldi is the one that gets the UX really right, being a re-imagining of the old Opera 12 basically (new Opera still sucks). It's better than Firefox in that regard.

I'm not much of a video freak, so haven't noticed that insufficiency in Firefox.

some Facebook videos simply won't work in Firefox, but most of FB is trash anyway, so I don't worry about it
