[SOLVED] Receiving files FROM smartphone bluetooth
Hello guys,
I can send files to the phone but I can't receive. Looking into the old posts I came to know I have to install gnome-file-share. I did it and I still do not get the menu entry in Preferences->File-Sharing.
Anyway I ran it from the terminal and I got a statement in gnome-file-share window complaining some dependencies are missing. When I installed it it didn't call any dependencies.
1) What are the dependencies?
2) Ho do I notify this to the packager?
Thanks

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone
Hi GiuTor
It would help to know more about your system setup, what phone make and model, etc... If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
Side note: Are you the developer of the excellent Imagination slideshow app or just referencing it in your signature line? Great application.
Have you installed the MTP packages from the "Synaptic Package Manager SPM", restart afterward.
Hope this helps ...

Hi GiuTor,
You are welcome...
Can you please rerun the "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" without using root user "sudo"; you can update your last reply or create another.
What is your phone(s) make and model #? There are various options depending upon the answer to this.
Side note: Any new updates for Imagination? If so, how do we get them?

Thanks for your help and interest in Imagination.

@GiuTor,
Suggestion: Only use
What method are you trying to use to send/receive files? USB cable, wireless, Bluetooth?

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone
Hi GiuTor,
I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing.
You might consider updating to Mate v18.3 from the Mint Update Manager and perhaps a newer Linux Kernel.
Because you have a Samsung phone, I'll assume it is Android based and that you have a USB cable for it?
Have you installed the MTP packages from the "Synaptic Package Manager SPM"? Have you checked to see if the phone has an MTP or USB mode?
There are various applications and utilities for connecting an Android phone to any Linux Mint system.

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone
I got this from /var/log/syslog:
The phone and the laptop pair successfully as I can send files to the phone. Yes, it's an Android. I want to use bluetooth to transfer files, I can successfully do it with MTP and USB cable, thanks.

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone
Hi GiuTor,
Okay, I think the other options like "kde connect" provide much better options including faster transfer rates over using Bluetooth transfer.
The message shows a "bluez" and "GDbus" error.
Try installing these packages and rebooting.
obexfs
obexftp
bluez-obexd
bluez-tools
bluewho
I assume that with "Mate" the "gnome-bluetooth" or something like it is already installed...
Hope this helps ...

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone
I had a similar problem as yours. I had to install a program that JeremyB suggested. Unfortunately, I'm on vacation and don't have my Mint available to look at to find what the program is.

Re: Receiving files FROM smarthpone bluetooth
Hello guys,
my stubbornness was rewarded. I issued this command as the file was missing. Please check if you have it first:
Then I uninstalled blueberry and installed blueman. I got a small progress as the file transfer was stuck on 0% so I went into the setup for my smartphone and I made it a trusted device. Then View->Local Services and I checked "Accept files from Trusted devices".
I was able to transfer files FROM my Samsung Android to my laptop.
I definitely have to admit Bluetooth in 2018 is still complicated on Linux... Obex, dbus are really a mess!
Hope this will be helpful to someone, I spent 3 hrs and 30 mins to get it working...

on my smartphone, I use an app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ilemanager
if you have your PC's desktop setup as a Shared Folder, or other folder if you wish.
and the smartphone and the PC are logged into the same WiFi signal,
the ASUS FM app will copy files from your phone to the PC.
I use it multiple times a day, and it is fast.

Thanks a lot for this tip. I didn't know this app.

I will check when I get home but I think there's an option in the Bluetooth manager to receive files over Bluetooth
