Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
Mint 19 MATE didn't work out very well on my system. It might have been because I didn't restrict the updates enough and the troublesome .24 kernel got installed. Soooooooo...I just did a fresh install of Mint 19 Cinnamon using the v2 .iso and installed wine stable on it as I did on my previous MATE install. Result: Cinnamon works absolutely flawlessly, with no glitches whatsoever, and my 2 games I enjoy under wine both work without a hitch. Finally I can settle in with the new Mint for a couple of years and just enjoy.

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
Where did you get the new ISOs? I'm not seeing anything on the blog or main sites.
Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
Because they have not reached all mirrors yet. The new ones are the -v2 ones:ajgringo619 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:20 pm Where did you get the new ISOs? I'm not seeing anything on the blog or main sites.

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
If I go to the Linux Mint web site, select Cinnamon, and then click on a mirror, for example, the Heanet mirror, I only see the old version offered. But if I go directly to https://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/stable/19/, then I see all the iso's, including the new one.ajgringo619 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:20 pm Where did you get the new ISOs? In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they ain't.

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
That was just the first "worldwide" mirror on the list as an example. As slipstick explained, it's easy to take another one near you and check if it has the new versions already.ajgringo619 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 20, 2018 2:33 pm Thanks. Downloading Cinnamon & XFCE now (realllllllllllyyyyyyyyy slow!).

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
For those of us who have Version 1 of this release, wouldn't we wind up getting everything that's in Version 2 merely by virtue of doing system updates?

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
Correct. V2 of the images was only created because of a bug that could prevent successful installation of the original version. If you already have Mint 19 installed you don't need these.
Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
So nice to have a positive comment when I first log on here. I love Tara in Cinnamon. I have on ever used the Cinnamon as I didn't like MATE when I tried it on a live. I have the 29 kernel and that works without problems as well.tdockery97 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:00 pm Mint 19 MATE didn't work out very well on my system. Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
I downloaded v2 of Cinnamon Tara and all works fine. Initially it wouldn't install Grub.
Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
19 has too many problems on my system, one of which is the inability to install about half of the programs I use in 18.3. So I think to skip 19, keep with 18.3 and wait for Mint 20 to see what they will make of it. Hopefully a year or two would be enough for them to fix all the issues which keep popping up like unwanted ads.tdockery97 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:00 pm Mint 19 MATE didn't work out very well on my system. Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
The point releases have the fixes. 20 will be yet another new release. 19.1 will be better with .2 then .3 being better yet. Just wanted to clarify.Valsodar wrote: ⤴Tue Jul 31, 2018 7:27 pm 19 has too many problems on my system, one of which is the inability to install about half of the programs I use in 18.3. Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure
So, if they release 19.3 and I upgrade my current install, I'll have 19.3, not 19.0?
