Ok that resolved the issue of no options for 3rd party drivers, but im still getting a message the Cinnamon is currently running without hardware acceleration.
What else should I look at to resolve this issue?

Is there anything else I can try, also the Nvidia configuration tool wont launch either.

Use these commands in the Terminal and post the output:

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk |egrep -A3 -i "3D|VGA"
ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/char/drm/
ls /etc/modprobe.d
ls /etc/X11
Also post the Xorg.0.log file. Use this command to open it: xed /var/log/Xorg.0.log

If you have problems posting that long file, then it can be uploaded to pastebin.
First install pastebinit with this command: sudo apt install pastebinit

Then use this command to upload the file to pastebin: pastebinit /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Post the URL link that displays in the Terminal window.

There is currently no driver in use for the nvidia card. Did you disable Secure Boot in the bios settings ?

That's necessary because the nvidia kernel modules are compiled locally on your computer and not signed by Ubuntu's key. With Secure Boot on the Linux kernel will refuse to load an unsigned kernel module.
