<solved>display res stuck on 1024x768, no hw acceleration

Hello,
I just completed a clean install on a new build. Acer monitor's native display is 1920x1080 but does not appear as an option in LM "Display". The only choice is 1024x768 (4:3). The default display detected is "Laptop". The desktop notice appears regarding LM "running in software rendering mode" suggesting a problem with drivers.

I cannot find any resolution (pun intended) to this problem so any help is much appreciated.

The BIOS date listed is 2018 so unless you updated an older BIOS that's very new hardware. Mint 19 would probably work better. You could go to update manager > kernels and try installing the newest 4.5 series kernel ... newer Intel gpus seem to need that ... first.

I'd definitely install Mint 19. Install it cleanly, i.e. don't upgrade from within 18.3.

Thanks to both for recommendations. A clean install of Mint 19 and all is as it should be -- beautiful!
