DuckDuckGo

Post by avb12 »

DuckDuckGo is now the default search engine in Firefox62? Change the search engine does not give anything, again offered DuckDuckGo. What is the reason, how to fix?

it won't be if you open Preferences/Search and go to the bottom of the page

click on Find more Search Engines

goto bottom of that page, and click on the Google icon, it is super tiny, but it is there,
then click on Make Default

then go remove all of the other junk search engines totally.............

What's wrong with DDG? At least they don't track you as if you were cattle like Google does.

I use three search engines: Yandex, Google, DDG and would like to choose which one and when to use. Since most often I use Yandex, I want this search engine to be my default, as it was before Firefox62.0. Now that I'm assigning Yandex as the default search engine, Firefox 62.0 still makes it DDG.

I am curious as to why your installation is doing that to you, when my copy of 62.0 is still honoring my previous forced default to Google.com

I don't like the format and type of returns I get from Yandex, DDG, and others.
for my research, the most accurate results are returned with Google and usually if drilling down deep, I use Google Advanced version. https://www.google.com/advanced_search

My biggest problem with version 62 is the new Bookmark menu display which includes a huge image at the top and greatly expanded selection list below ( control-D ) ... I want it back to the old way, just a small box and No Images.

OK, it looks like the problem was that the do not remember history mode was enabled for privacy and the Always work in private browsing option was checked, so Firefox offered DDG as the default search engine

I have never checked those, and did not realize it would effect the Search Engine choices....
still, you should have been able to over ride it to what you want.

Alas, after restarting Firefox,Yandex again replaced by DDG. So the problem is different, not private.

oops!

they have changed how to get the Preferred Search engine, it used to go to a Mozilla page and all of them were listed in a small icon graph bar at the bottom of the page.

not any more, this is what comes up
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ype=search

I was going to test the change feature, but not after seeing that.
I am leaving mine just like it is...

I don't want to clutter up FF with another Addon,
just change the Default to the one I want and leave it at that.

Yeah I noticed that Google is no longer my preferred search engine, but if you go here, you can add it:
https://www.linuxmint.com/searchengines ... Google&c=y

and here shows all results: https://www.linuxmint.com/searchengines.php
