broken wifi connection
Hello
After three days of research I ask you for help please
suddenly the wifi does not work on my mint 18.4
while it worked automatically without problems for months.
The wifi continues to work well under Windows 10!
I tried several live distro and it's the same (xubuntu, dfdebian, manjaro, fedora)
wired ethernet works but not wifi except under win ??
I installed version 19 instead of 18.4 without formatting my 'Home' and
the wifi still does not work apart under win again ...
it is a HP Pavilion dm1 4433-sf pc
and here is below a balance sheet where we can see the
hard part of wifi card wlo1 in state down?
and all the way down the hard blocked yes?
jice@hooq7 ~ $ inxi -Nn
Network: Card-1: Ralink RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe driver: rt2800pci
IF: wlo1 state: down mac: 1c:3e:84:19:e6:ed
Card-2: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: r8169
IF: eno1 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: 74:46:a0:84:ff:9f
jice@hooq7 ~ $ rfkill list all

Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: yes
jice@hooq7 ~ $ rfkill unblock all
jice@hooq7 ~ $ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
I do not know what to do ?
Return on windows ?????????

...can you try going into your BIOS and see if there's any setting for enabling / resetting Wi-Fi?rhumdiplomatico wrote: ⤴Wed Sep 26, 2018 7:05 am suddenly the wifi does not work on my mint 18.4 while it worked automatically without problems for months.

If yes, you still might need to
rfkill unblock all
afterwards. The fact that it 'worked' previously but now does not...across multiple distros, is surely weird...
I'm not the guy to guide you through this in a straightforward manner, but for gurus to possibly troubleshoot such,
do post the output from
lsmod
& lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net
...Re: broken wifi connection
Thank you for these linux commands that I do not know
but that I can not exploit for lack of knowledge

Re: broken wifi connection
The command unloaded the module, check the rfkill command output then.

Re: broken wifi connection
Is there a button or switch on it to enabled/disable wifi?
Re: broken wifi connection
It's f12 exclusively on windows
it is inoperative on linux, even when the wifi was running on linux.
By cons it works well on windows!
I rebooted the pc from win to linux with this button turned on (white) or off (orange) but nothing happens.
Anyway it was not used on linux and was always orange when the wifi worked!
And the HP BIOS has no settings for network cards ??

Re: broken wifi connection
You might have to reset BIOS to defaults and see if the hard block gets cleared
