modesetting failed in linux mint 19

Post by leicai »

Dear all,

I installed Linux mint 19 Tara with keeping the home directory of Ubuntu 16.04(two hard drives existed in my computer, one for the home directory and the other for boot, root directory). With ~$ inxi -G, it has the following results (just pay attention to "Graphic" tab):

What should I do to make "modesetting" working instead of "failed".

Nothing, just ignore it, or do you have any troubles? Your NVIDIA chip has a working driver, and that's all you need, no?

PS: Probably just a bug with that old inxi version that ships with LM19, anyway. Run this to get the current version and then check your output again:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/inxi.conf;sudo inxi -U;sudo inxi -U

After doing so, the followings are obtained:

Another problem is the mouse is flickering and lagging. I extended two external monitors with UD3900. It works well in Ubuntu 16.04.
The same problem can be found in this link:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/947375/ ... 92#1027692
The solution from the above link cannot solve my problem. I tried all and failed.

See, was just an inxi bug.

Can't help you with the flickering mouse cursor. My guess would be it's either an issue with your graphics driver (check nvidia-settings or whatever it's called) or with your desktop environment's compositor (try a different desktop environment), and I lack experience both with nvidia and cinnamon on Linux.

The flickering problem was solved by the new update of displaylink manager driver.
