archive.canonical.com/ubuntu tara release doesn't exist hence update manager can't find it.

tara is the code-name used for the mint provided repos in 19 - bionic is the ubuntu codename.

What does your inxi -r report?

BTW - your screenshots as posted are are really hard to read on a low res monitor. Why not just copy/paste the error message or at least link in post to the image with [rimg][/rimg] tags which will allow easier zooming in the browser.

second time i've had to tell someone to mouse over or click the image to get a larger view. i actually just posted the link so it would be full-size on mouse over and a single click. now as for inxi -r. here you go. thanks

Code: Select all

Launch Software Sources and remove the "bad" repository under the Additional Repositories tab.

Honestly, I can't really tell. I just went to archive.canonical.com/ubuntu to check if the repository for tara really existed. It didn't. That's why my suggestion. May I ask why did this particular "repository" has ended up in your Sources?

It's never existed. Normally it appears when someone has followed an Ubuntu-centric tutorial that ignores the existence of Ubuntu based distros and suggests a command along the lines of

sudo apt-add-repository “deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc) blah-blah”

history | grep apt-add-repository will tell you if that is the case. I guess it's possible that something else that has been installed could have added it.
