Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2018
i like to move it around the desktop, and if my mouse is closer it i won't have to move the mouse to the panel and i will have saved about 800 pixels from being traced over by my cursor movement

A background hardly completes a look & feel. There are plenty of Windows 10 themes available e.g https://b00merang.weebly.com/windows-10.html
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

Wow! Thanks a lot for the excellent write up!trytip wrote: ⤴Sat Jan 05, 2019 11:59 amphew, where do i start every element is done separately. some bastardized and not working too well, i'm referring to having the kwin window manager in mate 17.3 which is the kde4 package.
i don't believe you are able to reproduce this unless you are on an older mint like 17.3 and below but i have not tried since kde switched to plasma desktop
i'm sure you can use the silver background, this is just a small picture i made which can be used for mate panels and xfce panels
this will not work or have not tried it in mint cinnamon 19.
256x256
512x512
1920x1200
in mate panel settings choose to set an image background and depending on your launchers and your extra icons on the panel you'll get the different light/dark alternating shadow effect by using one of the two smaller sizes of the image. on top panel i use the 256 and bottom 512 in mate. in xfce i had to resize the larger wallpaper to roughly the sise of my resolution+panel size
for the conky i use a slightly more darker image and the transparency has to be set semi-transparent, but this is also an obstacle since i use the old conky and not version 1 or later. haven't learned how to make scripts in the new conkies. the picture has to be placed inside the folder that has the conkyrc and then stretching the image and applying it to the conky script with code below the first line right after TEXTconky 512x512Code: Select all
${image ./back.png -p -2,-2 -s 227x855}
sorry this isn't a one click make the whole them look like it is. cinnamon at least has the ability to make it like that but a theme would have to be built and i don't know much about editing or creating cinnamon themes
Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2018
I have a dual monitor setup, two identical brands and sizes of 24" monitors, giving me a total area of 3840x1080. The thing that has always bugged me was how large wallpapers were displayed when set to span the monitors. The walls would be cut in half, the entire full left half displayed on the left monitor, which left the entire right half to be displayed on the right monitor. All well and good, but the thing is, there is no way for the system to take into account the amount of space the two side bezels of the monitors take up. So, for example, if a person's face is in the center of your 3840x1080 wallpaper, the face ends up looking very wrong, and very wide and out of perspective. Anyone who runs dual monitor setups knows what I'm talking about, I have a feeling.
Anyway, I finally got fed up with it, and designed a wallpaper system that will display the walls the way they should look. It's as if you are looking out a window that has a narrow strip of framing wood running down the center of the window (the actual area that the two side bezels take up). In the course of designing the system, one thing lead to another, and the screenshots are the results of how I deal with the display problem of spanned wallpapers. I also had to account for the space that Gkrellm takes up on my right monitor, so that was a bit of a challenge also. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but it works for me, and allows me to view my 200+ wallpapers with much more satisfaction now. A few examples are as follows, and I even added a representation of what the two side bezels look like as I view my dual monitor setup:
Well, it seems I can't upload any of these screenshots as attachments, I'm told they are too big, so I'll provide a couple of direct links to them. Hope this works...

Does anyone else run something similar in order to get their spanned walls to display properly?
UPDATE: I have uploaded the original screenshots to Imgur, but when I include the link inside the rimg /rimg (with brackets of course) tags, nothing happens to show a linkable preview in my post. I have done a search of the forum, but I can't seem to find any information on how to do this properly. I would like to be able to upload the original screenshot to Imgur, and then put the link into my post here, so that there is a visible thumbnail preview that can be clicked on.
Would someone please point me in the right direction to learn how to do this on this forum? Thanks!

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2018
So I ran across some of my old 1920x1080 wallpapers that I wanted to put up on my desktop, and after some graphical gymnastics, I've come up with a way to display them on my dual monitor setup that is a bit more than just the average way to throw them up there. I'll post one example below. It goes along with the other method that I posted examples of in my previous post.
I'm not fishing for compliments here, but after seeing that this thread got 164 more views after my last post, I would have thought someone would have said something... Positive, negative, doesn't matter.... I'm still looking for how to make posts that show the thumbnail of the image I upload to Imgur. I don't expect anyone to walk me thru it step by step, but a pointer in the right direction to where I can read and learn would be helpful. Just sayin' .............

I also updated the large template with some drop shadows for a better depth illusion, and added an accent ring around the main image to be shown. An example below:
https://imgur.com/a/hqKAen0
If anyone might be interested, I'd be more than willing to share the templates I have made, both for the dual 1920x1080 example above, and for the larger single spanned 3840x1080 from my previous post. The templates work with Gimp, and the only thing you'd really need to have is either Gkrellm or Conky on the right side of your right-hand monitor...

nice setup. never setup multiple monitors like this i can see how this is useful if you have some production hobby or work where you need all that space. to post your images they need to end in an extension from a https image hosting site

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2018
I have this dual monitor setup because it lets me watch movies on the left monitor, while I do email, surf the web, whatever, on the right side at the same time. It's also great for using the terminal on the left while having a webpage open on the right to be able to follow an instructional or somesuch.
Thank you for the pointer on how to use the rimg button. I swear I tried doing that like 5 times, but the thumbnails never showed up in the previews to my posts, so I just made them into links. I'll try again, below...
Ah, ha. I see what my problem was now, since you pointed it out to me. I was clicking on the wrong button on the Imgur site to copy the link info. I've got it now, many thanks!!!
