Samsung's printer division was bought-out by HP back in 2017.

Most current driver for Ubuntu is here.

I have a Samsung Xpress M2020W that I picked up a few months back and remember installing for a test via wifi (back on old Mint 18.3) and then reboxed. It's going to my grandson, eventually.

I just got that printer out for a test with Mint 19 (never installed to this OS/machine...one in my sig running Cinnamon) and it was immediately detected and installed without install of the driver. Did a print test from Printers and it printed OK. It automatically installed port 631 IPP, which is fairly normal with following URI.

ipp://SEC8425191418C9.local:631/ipp/print

Technically, it should use the same universal driver from HP/Samsung, as the M2625D. I will install the driver on a test machine running 19.1 and report back.

Edit:

From a Mint 19.1 Cinnamon test machine.....

I was successful in installing the driver with "sudo bash install.sh" from the ULD directory created from extract of the downloaded gz. Long page on license and said yes to install and firewall.

Was able to install the printer with jetDirect and LDP. Note, ipp reports as driverless on manual attempt to install with that mode.

Only problem I encountered was a bug in locking the screen in Printers when attempting to use Change (which I believe is a reported bug in 19.1). I just deleted and added the printer for my tests. Also, on reboot it automatically detects and reinstalls the printer as ipp, even with it installed in one of the other modes.

Didn't try USB.

Edit2:

I was able to login to the printer's SyncThru Web Service console and did some looking. There is a way to disable ipp (and the other two protocols) in my machine. Note, the default ID and password are admin/sec00000.

Edit3: OK.....started the same Mint 19.1 Cinnamon test machine with my M2020W Printer connected USB. Printer automatically installed and prints from Printers app. Deleted the printer from Printers and re-Added. Same results. Note, that's the same machine I installed the driver too.

Re: Samsung xpress M2625D and LM19 - SOLVED

Post by OceanMan7 »

Hello,

I'd been having a similar problem with printing to a Samsung M2835DW under 19.1. After getting the Samsung driver installed, everything worked except the java-based application, Moneydance, which hung the whole GUI when I tried to print. I had installed 18.3 in another partition to restore printing (no problems with that version) and was just starting to trace my Moneydance problem when I installed the new version of Cinnamon that was pushed today.

Today's new version of Cinnamon solved all remaining problems.

Thanks to the developers and gurus hovering over this list!
