Samsung Express M2070FW trouble with LM 19.1

Post by Rtep »

I’m trying to install AIO Samsung Express M2070FW printer/scanner. After fresh LM 19.1 Tessa Mate installation Linux (small window in right upper corner) told me I need install software for my printer. I opened “Printers” and tried to install it from list of available printers. There is NOTHING THERE, but one GENERIC driver. That driver is not working anyway. Doing same procedure in LM 18.3 Sylvia Mate did gave me tons of drivers for plenty of printers. What is wrong with LM 19.1 Tessa? Somebody forgot something? BTW on LM 18.3 I installed Unified driver uld_V1.00.39_01.17 for this Samsung printer and everything is working OK. NOT ON TESSA! Printer is printing, but scanner (ANY) is telling me that I need to install scanner.
Thanx in advance for any help.

just did a test install of that driver the other day for discussion on another thread. Ran the install to Mint 19.1 Cinnamon x64 for an Xpress M2020W (printer only, not AIO).

Are you installing USB or network?

When you say "not recognise", is that from Simple Scan or Xsane not detecting the scanner?

I tried 3 available scanners: Simple scan, XSane and Scanlite. Every time I got the same result. None of them found any scanner installed.

What do the outputs of

Code: Select all

lsusb
sane-find-scanner
scanimage
give you?

Did you download and install the printer-scanner driver?

Sorry....just wanted to double-check as your statement was that you install it to LM 18.3 and didn't repeat you did exactly same on LM 19.1. I just needed to confirm.

lsusb and sane-find-scanner are showing the scanner is there. scanimage -L is not finding the scanner. That last is depended on driver/backend. Were there any errors during the install process? The fact you're also missing printer drivers suggests something didn't go in correct.

Edit: Please run the following command from Terminal and post back the results. Does your motherboard have both USB2 and USB3?

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz

He could also check for an "smfp" entry in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and the existence of libsane-smfp.so.1.0.1 and libscmssc.so in /usr/lib/x86_64-something-or-other/sane (I do not use a 64-bit OS).

Any chance when you ran the bash install script, you didn't use "sudo"?

That's probably the problem. Run it with sudo.

Per my earlier link, I used sudo and it installed fine. I have notes from my install last summer under Mint 18.3 when Samsung still hosted the driver. Notes indicated the bash script was to be run with sudo/su.

I installed this driver uld_V1.00.39_01.17.tar.gz with sudo, of course. I tough you asking about running inxi -Fxz.Everything installed OK. I even uninstalled both printer and scanner drivers and install them again. Still nothing. Printer is working, scanner not. On LM 18.3 Mate I have no problem. Printing, scanning......working without any problem.

The install notes for Mint 19.1 have a link to bug report on Scanner not found. I also looked for any bug with that installer at Ubuntu and found this. I think they are potentially the same bug. You might try that "copy" suggestion from post at Ubuntu and see if that helps.

Judging by the response to

the OP doesn't seem inclined to look st where the files which uld installs are located.

ClixTrix I followed that suggestion from link, but it did nothing for me. Scan is still not working. Sad. Thanx anyway.
