I have faith in the Mint community that this won't become a nationality war.

Some forums on the net it would, reddit, whirlpool, quora maybe, this community is actually very different and unique.

+1 to Mint community

Then let us be thankful that the mint community is a tad more mature and able to discipline itself sufficiently to avoid such occurences. 100 pages of red white and blue on the other hand..... :D

I am the grandson of immigrants to the UK from Poland of about 120 years ago.
My Dad told me when I was about 10 that the most valuable thing I would ever possess would be a British passport.
Looking back, I think he was right. :)

Red, white and blue ?

Surely that should be "blue, white and red".

The colours of flags are taken either from the "hoist" or from the top, therefore the French flag, for example, is blue, white and red.
The Dutch flag (from the top) originally was orange, white and blue, in honour of Prince William I, Prince of Orange. It was officially changed to red, white and blue in 1796 and adopted as the national flag in 1806 and again ratified following liberation from French occupation in 1816.
The popular description of "red, white and blue" is of North American origin.

That doesn't explain why you feel that it should 'surely' be "blue, white and red" and not "red, white and blue". In fact, you have just explained why to me, as a Dutch person, it will always be "red, white and blue". Of course we don't call it that... we call it "rood, wit en blauw".

But go ahead, explain my own country's flag to me some more.

It does not really matter to me in what order the colours of a flag are read, my comment was intended merely to contribute to a discussion.

I wonder how Clem would describe the colours of the French flag. I doubt that he would describe them as red, white and blue. From a Dutch perspective, yes, the Dutch colours are red, white and blue (read from the top).

The colours of the Australian flag could be described as red, white and blue or since we are down under, blue white and red. Does anyone care?

Are you asking me to provide more Dutch flag history? I can include precise dates for the adoption of the changing flag if you like. There is and was no intention to offend. I just happen to have an interest in flags and heraldry and have access to some reference books on my personal library shelves.
