Hello all, I am a casual user of Ubuntu-Mate and Mint. I am new to forums. I am not happy with the direction Micro$oft has taken since Windows 8. I am hoping to get into Linux and be done with Microsoft altogether. I have installed several distros through the years. I have never settled on any one of them as a main driver. I use W7, W10 and my MacBook running Mojave as my main drivers. I have my sights set on Mint for my older units and Ubuntu Mate for my stronger PC's. I build/repair PC's as a sideline. I am hoping to win some customers over to Linux.
It's good to be here, Cheers!

Why not go with min cinnamon on your stronger units and mint mate on the others? But I am biased.

Re: Casual User looking to dig in to Mint and Mate
I am just getting back into Linux and although I liked Mint 13 thru 18 in the past, I really like the changes in Ubuntu Mate...I'll keep using/enjoying both until I decide. Either way one of them will rescue me from Microsoft Windows!
Cheers!

I agree with this suggestion. My only caveat would be for consistency across the board, use the Same DE on all machines. SO, if your low powered machines cope with Cinnamon, use that, otherwise use Mate, or Xfce.
