Video editor for zooming into the video

Post by GiuTor »

Hello,

I recorded a screencast of my desktop. Which video editor allows to zoom into the video? I hope I'm clear. Also I would need some basic effects like highlight a portion of the video and blur it.

Thanks

Hi GiuTor,

You are welcome...

I just updated my last reply.

You can use Kdenlive in any edition of Linux. I recommend their AppImage.

There are a few other video editors like "Shotcut", a new one called "Olive", "Flowblade", "Pitivi", Cinelerra-gv, etc...

Thanks mate! I recently released version 3.4 with fullscreen preview and few other things. Development stopped again unfortunately.

Hi GiuTor,

You are welcome...

And, thank you for your Imagination slideshow application.

Are there any installation binaries for your new version like Linux Deb files? I compiled it, but others in the forum do not like having, or know how, to compile software.

Hope this helps ...

No unfortunately. I emailed the Debian package maintainer two months ago, no replies so far...

Do you know this tool?

Hi GiuTor,

Yes, I do know about "checkinstall". In fact, I have used it many times. I used checkinstall after compiling your software for creating a Linux deb file (64-bit). I really like the updated version of Imagination slideshow creator as well, Thank You.

If anyone wants it,
(64-bit) - Here is my compiled version of Imagination 3.4 in a 64-bit Linux deb file, save and double-click it to install it.

(32-bit) Here is my compiled version of Imagination 3.4 in a 32-bit Linux deb file, save and double-click it to install it.

So, how's it going with the video editors and zooming, highlighting, and blurring effects?

Hey mate, thank you so much for your DEB package! I also sent an email to the Ubuntu ml to tell them a new version was out. Total silence...
I haven't started yet, tomorrow I will try to install Olive, it looks promising.

Thanks

Hi GiuTor,

You are welcome...

I just updated my last reply.

I do not know if I can create a 32-bit deb file on my 64-bit computer. I am pretty sure I can, I just do not know the correct syntax or procedure yet. Using "checkinstall" is easy, from within the folder where you compiled the software, just run "sudo checkinstall" and follow the prompts using the defaults. I do enter in the name of the software and I change the "0" option to show that I created the deb file when it is someone else's software.

I use Kdenlive for most of my video editing needs, but I am interested in the "Olive" video editor. I have Olive installed as well, but I have not yet experimented with it.

Hope this helps ...

Hello Phil,

I will keep you posted! Thanks for the screenshots. I added a flip horizontally option in the next version but I removed the rotate ability. I'm planning to do it automatically according to the EXIF info in the jpg.

Hi GiuTor,

Do you mean that you removed the rotate image capability or the rotate text capability? I really like the rotate text option and I could see people wanting the rotate image as well although I do not use that very much. The rotate using the image exif information sounds interesting too.

I have been telling people for years now in many posts and replies regarding creating videos, making movies, and creating DVD discs that combining their pictures and images into videos using a simple application like your Imagination is a great option.

And definitely keep us posted on your progress with the video editors as those effects you are interested in doing are also things other people want to do. Once you figure it out and you share that process here, then that can help others.

The rotate image feature.

I really appreciate your help. I started Imagination in 2009 because of the difficulty by then to achieve a simple slideshow with a very friendly GUI.

I will, this is the spirit of the opensource movement!

Hi GiuTor,

Well, using "checkinstall" to create a 32-bit deb file for "Imagination 3.4" was much easier than I thought it would be from my 64-bit computer.

Code: Select all

sudo checkinstall -arch i386
OR
I could have changed the architecture in the "checkinstall" menu.

Here is my compiled version of Imagination 3.4 in a 32-bit Linux deb file, save and double-click it to install it.
https://mega.nz/#!0ItUnQ6Z!P6kCNfS4_ekK ... Q3WNRjMLmc

I do not have a 32-bit computer setup to try this with, so someone else would have to try it.

Hi mate, better late than ever, I finally installed Olive and it ROCKS indeed! Just few dependencies and voila'! It's AMAZING indeed.

Many many thanks for letting me know!

Hi GiuTor,

You are welcome...

Glad you like the newer Olive video editor. Can you explain to us briefly how you use it to "zoom" into your video selections? Or even better using a desktop video recorder like SimpleScreenRecorder to show us.

I just used it to trim a video. Sorry not to be of help. I think on youtube there should be a video showing that.
