Indeed, Canon have ceased all support for this printer on all OSs. It is possible to get your packages installed but printing will not work. Rebuilding from source is probably the only way.
Thierry Huchard has done this in January 2019:

https://launchpad.net/~thierry-f/+archi ... chael-gruz

The packages install for me but the pstocanonij filter crashes when producing a file to send on Mint 19.1 to the printer.

Thanks Brian.
I don't know the first thing about "rebuilding from source".
I would have to read up a lot first.

This comment was not intended to dissuade from using the up-to-date archive that was pointed to but to reflect my experience. It turns out I did not employ my testing tools sensibly and the filter chain does indeed produce a printer-ready file. It could be all systems go for you.

Jim,

Thanks Brian. I did not recognise it as such. I will look for further instructions on the "Ubuntu One" site. Once I get my registration on that site accepted etc.
I don't know which package to select yet.
More later.........
