HD is external USB not being recogniged

Hello

I have a HD in an external HD dock.

the drive spins up, but does not mount? not seen in linux

how can I change this so it will auto mount when USB cable is plugged in?

I know this might be a silly question, but what are you doing to mount it?

USB should auto mount, is there anything showing up in /media ? How is the drive formatted, NTFS, ext4, etc.?
