MSI Z390 Gaming Pro network driver for LM 19.1 Solved

Post by Destry »

My wireless works just fine. The Ethernet wired connection does not have the proper driver. The only driver offered on MSI website is a Win10 driver. I want to use my wired network. Not wireless. Anyone have an idea where I can find a network driver that will work with LM 19.1?

Thanks.

Try this:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 4.18 series. Then reboot.

Does that help?

It ought to. I have that NIC and it's detected fine with 4.18.

Cheers.

Something else is wrong. The correct driver is loaded so the card should have worked before you changed the kernel. Did you make any changes while trying to get the wired network going?

No i made no changes. Reinstalled OS a couple times and made no difference. I did find this but do not know how to compile this driver and make it work.

I already told you that the correct driver is loaded and that the card should work. Borking your system by trying to compile and install the very same driver isn't going to fix it. Go to the manufacturer's web page for your board and check if there is an updated BIOS. Also, post the output of the ifconfig terminal command.

Ok, did you check for a BIOS update, and if there was one, did you apply it?

The card is detected and named eno1. It's not configured correctly in your network manager. Perhaps you should disable the wifi connection before trying to configure that card. Also, with the wifi turned off, please do this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install net-tools
Next, post the output of ethtool eno1. In a new code section, post the output of sudo lshw -C net.

I recommend replacing the cable and trying that command again to see if the speed and duplex come up.
