Can't get the DVD working...

Post by David2009 »

Hello. I have been using OpenSuse for a few months, and I was very impressed with Mint 7. I installed it today. I downloaded the Main Edition. I ran Mint Update, and I installed all VLC files.

VLC will open for a split second, and then close.

Here is a little more data for those who might be able to assist.

Can you run vlc from the terminal and post any output, hopefully it'll tell you why it's not starting properly.

I know how to go to the Terminal program. How would I run the VLC program?

I installed mint 7 main edition, also installed vlc from synaptic, after any updates, including restricted video drivers
--runs with no problems, since by using synaptic, I don't have to pick and choose dependencies, they are already selected by the install, and if I want any extras, I can look at the suggested for install(available when marking the app for installation)

I suggest using synaptic,
  • Completely removing VLC
  • Iinstall VLC
--this will match your current system as installed, you might also execute the reload button inside synaptic prior to this to make sure it (synpatic) knows what is/is not installed

David2009,
just type into the terminal:

Code: Select all

vlc
then you can copy/paste the output here for emorrp1.

regards, Richard

DrHu, do you have the same hardware as the Original Poster (David2009) ?
