I'm not cluey enough to solve your problem, but I'm sure the people who can will want more info.
Firstly what are you trying to do, make a live USB stick, to install mint on a computer, or are you trying to install mint on a USB stick?

Change the USB stick.
Change the USB port.

You said
/dev/sr0

it is the very first thing that pops up
Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
During installation or first boot?
Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
linux mint icon pops up and left arrow key shows the message pop up over and over until a shell pops up
Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
no install successful yet on this laptop
Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
That's really bizarre. Can you disable the DVD in the BIOS until the installation can complete?

Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
You need to edit live-USB´s
If your usb is
An example:
syslinux.cfg
file, append line live-media=/dev/sdb1
.If your usb is
/dev/sdc1
add live-media=/dev/sdc1
, and so on.An example:
Code: Select all
menu label Mint sdc1
kernel /casper/vmlinuz
append initrd=/casper/initrd.lz boot=casper locale=fi_FI.UTF-8 live-media=/dev/sdc1

Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
Good you got it fixed. Only seeing this now, so just to add that this is a somewhat known issue, usually the workaround is to pull out the USB stick after the error message appears and then re-insert it. So don't throw that stick away just yet.
Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
Install mkusb and reset the usb stick back to normal and then see if it works ok.

Re: linux mint install cant open /dev/sr0: No medium found
usb stick was a scandisk usb 3.1 32gb,
now its capacity is 2.25mb total,
went and picked up a regular 32gb usb stick and worked flawlessly.
