Google Earth version update (Fixed itself) [SOLVED]
When I start Google Earth I get a window with a message:
A new version of Google Earth Pro is available!
I usually wait for an update through the Program Manager but on this occasion I tried to update.
The Program Manager gave the message that the latest version is installed.
Has anyone else had this?
Do I just keep closing the message and wait for it to fix itself?

Re: Google Earth version update
I'd be tempted to stay with what you have if it works. I also get the same message and ignore it. Think at some time in the past I did use a 'newer' version and it didn't work. I've got version 7.3.2.5481

Yes it downloads and installs. When run the box/screen it is in is mostly transparent (can see the desktop through it) with a box in the middle with Google Earth and the top of the earth. The map or satellite picture of where you want is a small box towards the upper left corner. It is not movable or expandable.
When I said transparent box, when moved/dragged it to my other screen the desktop's bit where it first showed up is still there as a background to the Google Earth box.
This sort of thing has been like that for a year or more.
When I do need Google Earth I use a browser and get it from there for what ever I need to look at.
The other way round, having booted Google Earth, using the menu it has the option under "File" of "View in Google Maps". Clicking on this boots Chrome and Google Earth - which seems to miss the point of having Google Earth installed in the first place.

Re: Google Earth version update

Re: Google Earth version update
I've got it to work half arass but still didn't like it. I just use the webbase version and it works good

Re: Google Earth version update
All I can add to finish this is that version 7.3.2.5481 does work (lenovo T430, mint versions 18.0 through 18.3 and 19.0, all running cinnamon). Don't know if you can find a download for this, I've got a copy stashed on my NAS because of the problems I had with later versions.

Re: Google Earth version update
I think that I'll take Andy MH's advice and ignore it.
(I tried the web based version suggested by Pepi but it said to install Chrome. After installing Chromium I tried again but got the same message)

Re: Google Earth version update
I think you have to have Chrome for it to work. I use Chrome so I forgot to mention this
Re: Google Earth version update
Hi Pepi,
I thought that Linux required Chromium instead of Chrome.
I'll look in the Program Manager to see if Chrome is an option. I don't like using software that's not available in the Program Manager.

Hi Lord Boltar,
There's no option or reference anywhere to "Launch Repair Tool" in the help files.
lsb-core is installed.

Hi Lord Boltar,
The option is not available. I took a picture but I can't get the image size small enough using Gimp.
The options are:
Help Resources
Keyboard Shortcuts
Startup Tips
--------------
Release Notes
Licence
Privacy
-------------
Send Feedback
About Google Earth
There is nothing under the "Help Resources" heading either.

Re: Google Earth version update
I'm using version 7.3.2.5495 (64-bit) of GoogleEarth in my Linux Mint 19.01. Works perfectly, and I was even able to import my saved places file (myplaces.kml) from my windows 7 machine into it. I used Linux Mint's software manager to install GoogleEarth, and it did so without a problem.
Re: Google Earth version update
COOL I uninstalled my older version of Google Earth Client and installed this version and it works like a charm. I liked the web version but it would lose my bookmarks on landmarks that I would add? Re: Google Earth version update
Hi Lord Boltar,
If I download the newer version from your link, do I have to uninstall the old version first?
Do I have to save "My Places" and reload it?
