[SOLVED] 19.1 Installation problems: no wireless connection

Post by jdmckay »

Hi,

Installing latest (19.1) version of LM Cinnamon on a new HP laptop, model: 14-cl0061st.

Live CD gave me no wifi connection, I'm doing fine with wifi on older laptop on this network. I did clean install successfully.

Reading a few other threads, expected to be able to use driver manager to update from Live CD. Rebooted fresh install, loaded Live CD. However, driver manager comes up blank. Details box says:
E:The repository 'cdrom://Linux Mint 19.1 _Tessa_ - Release amd64 20181217 bionic Release' does not have a Release file.
My video info:
~$ lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net

Any help appreciated.

Try this:
1. Establish temporary internet connection by other means;
2. Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 5.0 series. Then reboot.

Did not do the trick.

I long ago gave away all my Ethernet cables. Borrowed one from a neighbor. Going to reinstall with Ethernet connection and 3rd party drivers checked, see what happens. Will let you know.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Do the same with the following four commands:

Code: Select all

rfkill list all

Code: Select all

iwconfig

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

lspci

Probably an RTL8723DE chipset. Try the driver from lwfinger (extended edition):

(item 8 )

As it's an HP, you might afterwards also need to do this:

(item 2)
