[SOLVED] Wifi stopped working

I have an hp pavilion D1000 and wireless quit after an update.

I have a NETGEAR WNA3100 USB dongle that I'd like to install so I can get some help sorting out the internal wireless and return the dongle to it's rightful place.

It powers up and the system (mint 19) can find it.

Hope this is right path.

Try this:
In the Grub bootloader menu, select the advanced options and boot from an older kernel.

- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;

Apologies for not promptly responding to you.

This same issue started with an hp DV1000 but in attempting a DIY fix on it by following a prescription based on the Wireless Card manufacturer on another website I pretty much trashed the OS. It's cycling thru a logon sequence.

I expect booting from an image on a CD might be the answer there and more appropriate to a different forum.

If you will indulge me I've answered your request on this laptop (Sony E Series that started life as a Windows 7 machine) and stopped working after I upgraded to 19.1.

Hard blocked.... Does your laptop have a physical switch for your WiFi? If so, check its state. If not: try the Fn key combination for enabling/disabling WiFi (airplane mode).

After I tried <Fn> with all <F*> and a few <A/N> I looked for and found the cleverly hidden 'Wireless' switch.

WiFi back on.
All is well.

Lesson learned.

When I tried to attach an unrequested but possibly informational pix of said switch I started with an original 20MB image and received a "File too large" message.

I Gave up after cutting down the area and the resolution/quality to less than 1MB.

Just how small does an image (jpg of course) have to be to be accepted?

Older Sony Vaio had a switch on the front left of the keyboard if I remember correctly
