SOLVED FOR NOW - What software controls input of name for creation of new folders

You're switching back and forth between two different directories:

In the first post you were at ~/Pictures/, which is the same as /home/wpshooter/Pictures,

then later you were talking about /home/Pictures,

and now back to ~/Pictures/ and ~/Pictures/Spypoint.

And a third directory /Pictures/Spypoint got in there, too.

It matters because are not the same. They are different directories with different permissions.

root owns /home, so you can't make a directory in it (like /home/Pictures) unless you're root/sudo, which seemed to be the original problem, but user wpshooter owns /home/wpshooter, so you can make directories in it, namely /home/wpshooter/Pictures/ should be no problem.

Also if you put a file in /home/Pictures/Spypoint/somefile, the file won't be in /home/wpshooter/Pictures/Spypoint.

Well then, perhaps my version of Linux Mint Mate is somehow different from yours because
I have been doing it for YEARS now and it works just fine !!!

For something that works just fine, you sure make a lot of posts (literally dozens?) about problems creating directories. And it wasn't a warning, just a statement: what you said about the directories being the same is not true. What you said about "it works just fine" isn't true either. You're getting different directory paths mixed up and that's probably why you have problems.

And it wasn't a warning, just a statement: what you said about the directories being the same is not true. What you said about "it works just fine" isn't true either. You're getting different directory paths mixed up and that's probably why you have problems.

I got around to doing some more work on it today and I finally discovered the cause of the problem and different directory/folder paths had nothing to do with the problem.
