I can't help but can tell you, the only time I've had to use a password for anything lately was to install updates or change settings. Used to have to enter it to wake up my computer as well. It doesn't bother me, but I'm curious as well what changed?

Try checking Screensaver>Settings>Lock settings>Delay before locking
