You can load Mint on any x86 based tablet, just make sure that there is good support for the wifi device. You can test with a liveUSB before purchase. Though I found most Android tablets to be a reasonable substitute for a laptop for short term, non-productivity usage.

Try Calibre from the Package Manager. It organize, convert and support just about any ebook format.
Mint Mate 19.1. Main rig is HP 800G2 I5 6500 16GB ram, 120GB boot drive, 2x3TB, 1x4TB data drives. Oldest rig is Mate 18.3 on Dell D620 with 32bits core duo.

I second the Calibre recommendation. It's a magnificant app. As for tablets, the most economical route is to buy an x86 tablet on ebay and install linux. Since Windows 8 sported a tablet type interface and was such a huge flop, there are lots of very cheap Windows 8 tablets out there.

.
Installing LM or Ubuntu on the recommended x86 tablets(= non-ARM) as per my above link, can be a hit-or-miss, 'miss' mainly because of lack of peripheral hardware device support or odd UEFI BIOS implementation by the tablet OEM.

Fyi, Android tablets can install most of the major Linux distros in a container(= like a virtual machine) by using the Linux Deploy, Busybox and VNC Viewer apps ....... https://www.maketecheasier.com/install- ... ux-deploy/
....... Windows can be similarly installed but in an emulator, eg the Limbo PC Emulator app. Samsung has the 'Linux on DeX' app for her Android devices.
