xfce 4.14

Post by Reaccion Raul »

Hi,

I wanted to know if there are plans to put xfce 4.14 on Linux Mint 19.2 or 3. I guess 3 more likely.

I saw there's already a date for it. August.

Xfce comes from upstream (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS), so I don't think it's likely to become available for Mint 19.x. My guess is Mint 20 (will be based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).

I would highly doubt it. Time would be needed to make certain it is stable. Also, point releases aren't usually where big upgrades happen, with exceptions I'm sure.

I just hope it will be included in Mint 20. That should be a pretty realistic goal, assuming there aren't scores of unresolved bugs when Mint 20 development gets underway.

Pretty sure the 18.04 LTS base has Xfce 4.12, not the 4.13 we have with Mint 19.1 Xfce

Well, even Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa has Xfce 4.12.3:

Xfce 4.14 isn't even officially released until next month. Mint is an LTS release, you'll only see the newest release on bleeding edge rolling release distros, as is usual with any software in Linux. Mint 20.something sounds about right.

I have Xfce 4.14 on Xubuntu. Got it by adding the Xubuntu Staging PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/staging

I'm guessing that won't work for Mint though. I have not run across any bugs or problems so far. The best thing about it to me is it fixes the broken mouse acceleration slider so it works again.

I don't know why it wouldn't.
Mint 18 Xfce 4.12.

This PPA woks nice on my Mint 19.2. Looks smoother and no issues so far.

Tread lightly:
As these packages (and new package versions) are primarily geared towards testing, they can be removed from the PPA at any time by the Xubuntu developers. Please DO NOT consider this PPA a main, stable source for the packages.

Hi, silfox2000,

Running 19.2/Surface Pro 6, I've tried your suggestion and added/updated the ppa:xubuntu-dev/staging, and while I can update some plugins, I'm still at xfce4-panel 4.12.2

Could you advise?

Thanks,
Jake

Xfce will be upgraded to 4.14, based on GTK3 and with initial support for HiDPI
