Hi,
I have an old Dell Inspiron 570 with an AMD Radeon 4200 (RS880) GPU. I got a QHD monitor and I have it hooked up via HDMI. I can't get the resolution to go up to 2560 x1440. According to the "Display" program in Mint, the highest resolution available is 1920 x 1080. However, the online specifications for the Radeon 4200 says it goes up to 2560 x 1440. Is there a way to get the higher resolution on Linux Mint? Is this a problem with the lack of AMD drivers - and there is nothing to be done?
p.s. I read the sticky note about AMD drivers, but I couldn't figure out how to find out what the "GCN" of my graphics chip was.
Thanks very much for any help!

Hello wary_linux,
unfortunately you haven't posted the LM version you are using. There are two default drivers for AMD cards: radeon and amdgpu. Your card is only supported by the radeon driver, so you can't use the amdgpu (the support with amdgpu begins with the "Sea Islands" Series).
A look at this website:
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/r ... 0-igp.c775
shows you, that there the recommended resolution is only 640x480. I don't think, it isn't very useful to get higher than the maximum resolution in the settings with that old card. I don't know how old your system is, but maybe you can think about a newer graphic card. If you like to show your hardware/system data for a maybe better estimation, post the terminal output of:
There exists a PPA for amd graphical drivers and you can try, whether it will allow you better support for your card, but I don't think so:

There is also the max. supported resolution of the HDMI hardware itself. Until HDMI 1.3, max. supported resolution is 1080p 60hz.
