WIFI non connesso - Intel Pro/ wireless 3945ABG (Golan)

Buongiorno a tutti, ho deciso di installare Mint 19.2 Cinnamon sul mio vecchio portatile PakardBell. Purtroppo non riesco a connettermi alla rete wifi di casa. Ho provato anche con l'hotspot del mio cellulare ma nulla da fare. Abbandonato il vecchio XP un anno fa ho installato win10 lite, ma era troppo lento tanto da abbandonare il pc fino a quando tre giorni fa ho deciso di sperimentare Mint, però non ne vuole sapere di connettersi al router di casa (fibra Tiscali da tre mesi).
Ho letto di altri con problemi analoghi ma non proprio uguali alla mia situazione e non vorrei pasticciare. Incollo di seguito le informazioni che di solito vengono chieste e confido nel vostro aiuto:

Assicurati solo di poter annullare qualsiasi cosa tu possa fare nel caso in cui non funzioni. Avere Timeshift impostato in anticipo.

Non so se centra qualcosa, tre mesi fa quando ho installato il nuovo router tiscali ho attivato solo la banda 2.4 Ghz. O almeno così credevo di aver fatto visto che gli altri pc e cellulari vedono anche quella di 5 Ghz. Io sto tentando ovviamente con la rete wifi da 2.4 inserendo la password ad hoc. Anche col cavo di rete niente connessione.

Temo che ciò vada oltre le mie capacità. Speriamo che qualcun altro possa aiutare. In caso contrario, puoi sempre provare un adattatore wifi USB.

La cosa tragica per me è impartire comandi di cui non conosco il significato.
Dai rapporti che ho postato emerge qualche indicazione o comunque qualcosa di significativo?
Sapreste indicarmi un manuale semplice e chiaro, magari anche sintetico, dove poter iniziare l'apprendimento dell'abc di linux.

Eccomi, dopo qualche giorno di impegni lavorativi e non.
Ho inserito una chiavetta wifi USB e si è connesso. Poi la ho scollegata per liberare una porta usb e per ritentare con la scheda interna al pc.
Ho poi controllato il settaggio del modem senza trovare nulla di particolare, ho attivato il 5Ghz, ho poi provato a connettere il pc e: si è connesso!
A questo punto credo che la scheda wifi del mio pc semplicemente non supporta il wifi a 2,4Ghz, che sia uno standard più recente?
Comunque direi che è "RISOLTO".
