Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxz
Press Enter.
Copy/paste the output in your next message.
Do the same with the following four commands:
Code: Select all
rfkill list all
Code: Select all
iwconfig
Code: Select all
lsusb
Code: Select all
lspci

Because you have an RTL8821CE chipset, replace
rtl8723be
by rtl8821ce
in the terminal commands.Keep your Linux Mint healthy: Avoid these 10 fatal mistakes

Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.
Looks like you have not installed the Realtek RTL8821CE chipset drivers per #10 in the link below from member Pjotr's excellent website which you have to do before you can change antenna configuration. You may have to reboot (restart) after installing the WiFi drivers before it works.

You are welcome...
Anytime you see
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?
That means you might have the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) or another console terminal window open and it should not be open at the same time and or you tried to run something that needs "sudo" in front of the command. You should not have the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) running while running console terminal installation commands and visa-versa or if the update manager is updating.
example:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install git dkms build-essential
Hope this helps ...

I realized that when I saw the message, I re-entered the command with sudo (it should show up in the line after the error message, 6 lines in)
Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
You have not said if your WiFi adapter is working and or working better now and if you were able to try the antenna selection options to see if that makes any difference? It does look like the appropriate Wifi drivers are now installed.
I am pretty sure you might have to run "modprobe".
Code: Select all
modprobe rtl8821ce
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe rtl8821ce
Example: Note: the tilda "~" represents "/home/YourUserName/"
Code: Select all
sudo rm -r ~/rtl8821ce
Hope this helps ...

Code: Select all

Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
Is "dkms remove" the same as "dkms uninstall" and is one better than the other?
What is this and what does it do, "rtw_enusbss=0"?

Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
The issue is still ongoing. I can connect to my WiFi but most websites won't load, instead they say I don't have an internet connection. I can load youtube on WiFi and play videos, but the majority of websites will not connect. When I connect by Ethernet cord, all the websites that weren't loading on WiFi, now load fine.
modprobe rtl8821ce
Code: Select all
modprobe: FATAL: Module rtl8821ce not found in directory /lib/modules/4.15.0-58-generic
Still no change. I don't think I remember doing that last command before, but after the reboot I'm still seeing the same connection issue.

Your device using rtl8821ce driver. This means that you have successfully installed the driver.

Re: WiFi is connected but some websites can't connect.
The only other things I can recommend would be:
1. to remove all the currently installed versions of this driver using the instructions from kelebek333 and reinstall it.
Open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one: Click "Select All" above command, right click the highlighted command, select Copy (or Ctrl+Insert), click in the console terminal window, and right click paste ("Shift+Insert" or "Ctrl+Shift+v"), repeat for each command.
Code: Select all
sudo dkms remove rtl8821ce/v5.5.2_34066.20190614 --all
Code: Select all
rm -rf rtl8821ce
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install build-essential git dkms linux-headers-$(uname -r)
Code: Select all
git clone https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce
Code: Select all
cd rtl8821ce
Code: Select all
sudo ./dkms-install.sh
I did notice from the last results of iwconfig that the WiFi signal seemed stronger.
3. Contact forum member "JermeyB" and see what he has to say.
