Recomended Models for Wirless Dongle

Post by frostymusic » Sat Sep 07, 2019 11:59 am

I have been reading that Atherlos ? makes a more compatible chipset for Linux use? Is this factual? Are there recommended model/brands for Mint use?

Hi frostymusic,

There are some "plug-n-play" WiFi adapters (USB external and PCI internal) for Linux that do not require installing drivers and "Panda" is one of the manufacturers among others. There are many posts in this forum on this topic.

If you go to Amazon.com or Ebay and use a search like "USB WiFi adapter Linux", you will see a lot of these. Read the descriptions and user comments. Highly recommend getting a WiFi adapter that is at least 300mbps or faster and if your hardware WiFi router supports AC dual-band, then get a dual-band Wifi adapter although single-band WiFi adapters should work well with dual-band WiFi AC routers.

Also, WiFi adapters with external antennas do seem to have better range, but the ones without an external antenna still work well.

And, for best performance check your local area for what WiFi signals are present and what channels they are using, and change your WiFI router if need be to use a channel(s) that is not being used by, or not used by many, other Wifi devices. there are various Linux applications and console terminal commands for doing this. Linux applications like "WiFi Radar", "LinSSID", "wavemon", "WireShark", etc...

Currently looking at Brostrend model thru Amazon.
The US price is very good, works out to about $53.00 CDN.
