Some suggestions for Linux Mint Cinnamon, and Linux Mint blog

I have been using Linux Mint Cinnamon for more than 3 years, and I went back, and forth between different desktop environments, and I like Cinnamon so much, but some things need to be improved.

1) The comment section in Linux Mint blog has no notification system, so I need to check manually between hundred of comments to see if someone answered my reply or not. It is a must thing to have to be able to communicate efficiently in this blog.

2) Power Management >> Extra options >> When the battery is critically low, There are only 2 options: nothing or shutdown immediately. Suspend or hibernate option will be better than shutdown especially if I have things opened on my computer!

3) Screen brightness works the same for battery, and AC. Two separate options for brightness will be appreciated.

4) Pix, it will be nice to move “rotate left”, and “rotate right” to the toolbar instead of the menu for easy access.

5) Mint-Y-Dark themes are good themes, but they aren’t vivide , and the levels of white, and black are not satisfying.

6) It will be nice to have alternative to the default screenshot application to choose from Preferred Applications.

7) It will be nice to have any settings for Controllers (joysticks) inside the system settings.

Hibernation (suspend-to-disk) is nowadays disabled in all Mint editions: Cinnamon, Xfce and MATE. For a good reason: it simply caused too many problems, partly because of non-standard BIOS and UEFI implementations by hardware vendors. That's why Ubuntu disabled it years earlier than Mint.

So I strongly advise not to enable it.

However, if you still want it, this should probably enable it:

1. Create /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla

2. Put the following content in it:

Why, the worst thing that can happen is that it does not work correctly. Works without a hitch for me though.

I was once waiting for the moderation system to allow my post. What I did was open the blog to the appropriate place (in your case to your post) on a specific tab and don't touch that tab afterwards. Just hit refresh in the browser daily or hourly or whenever. It's not what you were asking for, but it can be helpful.

I use Cinnamon not Mate. If Mate has awesome panel's applets like Cinnamon. I will use it immediately.
5) Most of the themes are incomplete, I can't change windows borders, controls, or icons.
6- I want to install another screenshot application, and be able to choose which one to use as the default application when I press printscreen from the keyboard.
7) It is about joysticks. KDE has settings like that, but I didn't find on any other desktop environment.

Ordinary suspend, or suspend-to-ram, should be enabled by default.
Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

It is the same for kernel 5.2, and 5.3.

The options are hard-coded in Cinnamon's power settings module and don't include suspend, and would only include hibernate in current Mint versions if it had been manually enable by the end user. I don't know what the the reasons for not offering suspend are, although it might be that as the machine still consumes power in a suspended state it's not considered a 'safe' option. The default critical threshold for action s time left - 2 mins or if using percentage mode 2% so is pretty low.

Cinnamon has the same option - I think the OP wants an option to have a different brightness level when not idle on battery.

Confusing wording on my part, I meant the "Reduce backlight brightness" option, which always applies when on battery, not just when idle. The amount brightness gets reduced by can be configured via dconf/gsettings. So this should be exactly what OP was looking for. I don't know if Cinnamon has something similar.
