I have an old laptop with only 256MB of ram in it.
It installed with mint4win just fine.
If you use the installer only it should be quicker.
It should be able with only 192MBs but I would have a swap partition with that low of RAM.

That's good to know that, merlwiz79. Now I hope that old Pentium III laptop I have on my hands will work nicely with XFCE. I will surely try it but I'm still desperate for LXDE CE.

Fantastic. I have used Linux Mint 6 Felicia XFCE CE since it came out, on my hp nx7000 and it is an absolute joy to use. LM6 XFCE CE was the first distro to break this pro unix sys admin away from using Ubuntu/Gnome on his own personal hardware in about 4 years, kudos for that guys. I, like the others here cannot wait for LM7 XFCE CE. Thanks so much for all you do. As much as I liked the ritual of moulding Ubuntu/Gnome into what I wanted (cosmetically, package-wise and codec-wise), I am so impressed that with LM, I didn't have to do any of it. I was truly happy with it, right out of the box. Brilliant!

The XFCE .iso is available and it looks like a winner.

How come there is no announcement about XFCE 7 RC being released?

I want to know what goes into this XFCE release. What Apps removed, Apps replaced, added? The benefits? Does this release include all that already in Xubuntu 9.04 less all the extra unnecessary bloats?

How long does the XFCE 7 stay in RC status before it becomes official XCFCE 7 Mint release?

Thanks.

Indra, this release is still very new and it only serves testing. On the other hand, it takes some time to propagate it to more mirrors so people can download it from multiple sources and NOT choke the only available server. Give it a little time.

Regarding the software base, I think it should be clear enough it's Xubuntu + Mint apps and patches to some known bugs in Xubuntu.
Regarding the final release, I suspect it will happen in maximum two weeks if no major bugs come to surface during the testing period. I has passed the standard Mint tests if it got published so it is now up to us to try it on our machines and offer feedback. I'm doing it as I type. Try it yourself and you will quickly see what's in it. I like it already.

Here's a list of useful software on the RC live CD:
1. Office: OpenOffice.org 3.0.1
2. Internet + E-mail: Mozilla Firefox 3.0.11 (with Flash), Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 with Lightning, Provider for Google Calendar and Timezone definitions for Mozilla Calendar extensions
3. Networking: pyNeighborhood 0.4, GPRS Easy Connect 3.0.1, Chestnut Dialer 0.3.3
4. Chat: Pidgin 2.5.5, XChat 2.8.6
5. Audio/Video: Brasero 2.26.1, Exaile 0.2.14, Gnome MPlayer 0.9.4
6. Graphics: Gimp 2.6.6, Scanner Utility 1.0.19
7. Accessories: Catfish 0.3.2 (file search utility), Mousepad 0.2.16 (text editor)

Java is also pre-installed and all this on Xfce 4.6.0. I tested the live CD on VirtualBox 3.0.2 in Windows XP and it performs very very well.

Is this enough information?

If you install the RC and keep up with the level 1 and 2 updates, you should pretty much have the stable release automatically. If anything not included in the updates is needed, an upgrade path will be posted in the Mint blog shortly after the stable release comes out.

If you mean give me a machine to work on then I could easily make it.
If you mean you'll do the work then it's your time and I could try to help as much as possible.
Either way I'll have to ask clem what he thinks about releasing a 64bit version of XFCE CE.
Once you clarify, we can go from there.

Good news on the release.
There is one known bug and possibly a second.(Exploder tests)
I'll have to look into the 2nd possible one 1st.
I'll try to fix these tonight and hopefully upload what will become the Release Candidate. :D
If exploder passes the next dev build then it'll be tested by clem.
Then if he doesn't find any bugs or needed changes, he'll decide when to release it.
I would be happy to donate a machine to the project. Though I really do want to get involved in the process and help anywhere you think I can, I also don't want to hold you up. I am all for helping to put together the 64bit version and help maintaining it, but would defer the decision to you as to what works best. Seeing how you are already the mint xfce developer, I don't want to step on any toes.... I have a system with amd x2 64 athlon +4200 cpu I can donate. Let me know what Clem says. Looking forward to getting involved.

Sorry for the long delay in updates.
My wife had a knee scope done and I've been busy taking her to her appointments.
She can't stand longer than 15 Mins so it makes a lot of things difficult.
I don't mind it but it takes me away from working on the CE.

One good thing is, if you have the RC installed you'll only have to update a few packages.
I have to update about 4 packages.(I think that's all)
Then rebuild and test the ISO.
I hope to get the packages and the iso done tonight.
If I can I'll get the testing done early tomorrow morning.

I just got a few things around the house to do before I get started.
