Serious lag issue!!

Hi all,

Firstly, thank you for having me on board. If there is an intro section then i shall make my way there at some point for a more formal introduction.

So, have had my Linux Mint desktop now a number of years though am still in complete learner phase so know very little.
My issue is, since yesterday my laptop that houses Linux distro has slowed down considerably and i do not know why??? Simply trying to open up a browser to downloading packages is now a time consuming annoyance.

Can anyone help me find and rectify the issue/s please..... Any assistsnce would be much appreciated

Hi again guys,

Thank you both for the support replies.....
So I've entered the commands you both have given me, results have been posted up, however I do wish I knew what all these results meant? Some of it seems like my H/W-S/W stats etc though other than that??? Hopefully ive given enough for you guys assist.

The only glaring item I see is spotify. It's pegged out at 100%. Were you using it when the commands were run? Google returns hits on it bogging PCs down, but I confess not knowing anything about Spotify. Someone may have a better suggestion, but I'd try uninstalling it temporarily and see what happens to the lag issue. You could take a Timeshift snapshot before uninstalling Spotify and then you could put the system back like it is with no worries about screwing something up.
How did you go about installing Spotify? There are 2 versions in the Software Manager. I will try and duplicate you situation.

Okay, I installed Spotify with snap and here's my sudo df -Th output with a song playing (same with no song playing or spotify shut off):

So why you have 4 instances of it running and I only have 2 is a mystery.

Thank you guys for your help on this.......

My issue has ow been sorted. Probably the most simplist of fixes really and something I guess I should have tried from the get go. I turned off my machine feeling defeated and helpless, only to turn it back on later in the day to sort email etc and would you know it, bloody thing fixed itself lol

Can anyone give me an idea on what may have happened in this time.....VERY INTERESTED in knowing what this may have been?
