croatian, bosnian keyboard layout! [SOLVED]

Post by mnkr »

This is how croatian, bosnian, keyboard layout looks like ------> http://ascii-table.com/keyboard.php/234-1 ,

and not like ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Qwertz-si.svg ,,,,,,,

from where (where = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout) you may picked it up and put in system which is absolutely false. Please do more researching. A lot of things that are put in Wikipedia related to these countries are false, so is this one.

The keyboard layouts are coming from upstream - this is a Ubuntu thing we inherit
I'll post this as a bug

I can't find either croatia or bosnia layouts listed in the Keyboard preferences dialog, where did you get the impression Ubuntu just uses wikipedia?

I did not check before I posted - again I stress too much...
Anyway
Keyboard Preferences > Layouts > Add > Pull down menu
and there is both Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina
There are minor differences between the layout in the link and what we have in the layouts options
The Balkan is a region which has had civil war and consequently tensions - it is quite possible that the layouts have changed and that this has not been reflected in the layout

I swear that's where I looked and couldn't find it listed, oh well, they've "appeared" in that list now. However, the Croatia > Croatia layout seems nigh-on identical to the reference OP linked to, and certainly looks closer to that than to the wikipedia version.

mnkr: perhaps you haven't managed to set your keyboard layout properly. Follow the steps above, then make default, apply system-wide and delete the existing one.

Thank you all very much for posting.

"Apply system-wide" solved the problem.
