[SOLVED] Laptop and external monitor

Post by Peter Linu »

I am now trying to configure my 23" monitor to work with my T440p.

Both old style monitor cable and HDMI cable have been connected. The T440p monitor works correctly and I get a blank lit-up screen on the 23". When I remove the old style cable and just use the HDMI cable, nothing changes.

How do I get the T440p to talk to the 23" monitor?

What happens when you launch the Display control panel?

Does the 23" show in there, with either cable?

Also, you may want to post the contents of this command: xrandr

It will show what's connected and not.

Hold the phone!!! This setup is dual boot and the laptop sees the monitor in all of its glory in Win7.
So obviously the problem must be a Mint Cinnamon 19.2 setting.

Because it says connected, doesn't mean it's active. If you've already done below, apologies.

Can you verify via the display applet, whether your 23" is "green" per the attached. Select it so it's highlighted in the top portion of the dialog, and make sure it's "activated."

SUCCESS!
I needed to tick the 'mirrored display'.
Thank you.

According to the specs, these are the three possible screens for the T440p.

Code: Select all

14.0" (355mm) HD (1366x768)
14.0" (355mm) HD+ (1600x900)
14.0" (355mm) FHD (1920x1080)
Which one is yours? Also, what is the make and model of the external monitor?
