(SOLVED) Epson XP-235 printer

Post by damod11 »

Hi. New mint 19.3 installed. installed drivers for linux from epson website (linuxmint 19 and ubuntu 18.04) but they wont work.
Mint sees the printer but wont scan or print anything.
I tried MX linux before mint and it found and installed fully working drivers for the xp-235.
Is there any way to pull these drivers from MX database and add into mint database ?
I want to stay with mint as my wife can navigate it easier.
thanks in advance.

There is a possibility that the settings are not OK for the Epson XP-235 printer.

Let's try the following two steps:

Step 1.
Menu/Administration/Printers/Printers-localhost
Is the Epson XP-235 printer listed as the 'Default' printer? If not, make the Epson XP-235 printer the default printer and try again.

If that does not fix the problem proceed to Step # 2.

Step 2.
Menu/Administration/Printers/Printers-localhost [right click] Printer Properties-Settings
.

Then give us the screenshot of the Printer Properties.

Thank you for supplying the screenshot of your "Printer Properties."

Two more suggestions.

1. Do a system update:

Code: Select all

~$sudo apt update
2. Give the terminal results for:

Code: Select all

lpstat -t
Hopefully we can resolve this problem.

Thank you for the coding information.

I have an Epson ET-2720 and after looking at your information, both the terminal and printer settings, and comparing it with mine, I cannot find much difference except for the printer nomenclature.

For my information and double-check.

Are you trying to print by wire or Wi-Fi?

Give the code for:

Code: Select all

~$uname -r

Thank you. Looks good.

Here are some actions that may help us find where the problem lies.

1. Let's look at your current lsb release.

Code: Select all

~$lsb_release -a
2. wiki.ubuntu.com has a Printer Debugging article.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems

On the first page, under "USB Printer," go through the first seven steps. Give us the results. If you notice anything else in the article, the article is 17 pages in length, that helps you out please let us know and give us the results.

The information provided was helpful. Maybe we found your problem, or, we are getting close to a solution.
According to your ~$lsb_release -a information that you provided you do not have an lsb module. I will spend time later digesting the rest of the terminal information you gave us.
kdf@kdf-hp:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia
Release: 19.3
Codename: tricia
Install lsb modules code

Code: Select all

~$sudo apt install lsb
Give us the results.
If the lsb module is installed then try your printer.

Re: Epson XP-235 printer

You mentioned that the Epson XP-235 printer is now printing lines. It seems that we are making progress. After a search in the internet concerning the printer just printing lines the Epson site suggested that, in our case, the problem is with either the printer heads or with the settings on the computer OS.

Since you previously stated that the printer worked fine on the MX database I am thinking that the problem lies in the setting on the Mint 19.3 OS or the installation of your previous Epson downloaded drivers.

Unless someone on Linux Mint can help you further, or if you find a specific site on the internet that can help you further, I would suggest the following steps.

1. In order to assure that the problem does not lie in the Linux OS. Run the following two commands:

Code: Select all

~$ sudo apt-get update
and then:

Code: Select all

~$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
2. If the above dist-upgrade does not fix the problem then I would re-install the Epson XP-235 drivers from the Epson website driver download webpage.

http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... archModule

Let us know what happens.
