Sound not working/ Graphics unstable?

Post by Bascotie »

Hey guys,

I have a sort of peculiar laptop, it's the ASUS M51Ta-X1. Before giving some information on my current issues, this laptop is only known to work fully with windows vista. There are many threads in the ASUS forums on getting the mobility radeon 3650 to work properly with WIndows7/ XP but no one has found a solution yet (this laptop alternates between a Radeon 3200 and 3650 GPU to alternate between balance/performance).

Currently the biggest issue I have is that the audio is not working (I tried youtube/mp3s/etc) and I know that if I enable the proprietary ATI drivers once I reboot I'll get a blank screen (I had to reinstall Mint after this happened the first time).

My priority is audio guys but if anyone can help with graphics as well I'll be very content =)

Here's what I get when i type

Code: Select all

lspci
in the terminal:

Sorry for the double post . . . Image . . but is there a place in your BIOS to change your VGA settings?
You may be able to enable just one of the gpu's you have, disabling the other . . . ?

Nope, unfortunately I can't. Even in windows XP when trying to disable one gpu in device manager it causes issues. Windows 7 is the only other operating system that seems to be fully compatible but even it has issues.

Are you sure? Isn't there a "Graphics Mode" settings in the BIOS?

Edit: With choices like: Auto,Basic,Premium. or something like that?

I'll check again but for the few times I've gone through the bios in the past I have not scene graphics options. Usually if there is an option its for which slot I want graphics to come from (PCI, AGP, PCIe, etc).

Currenty my problem is that after I tried installing the latest radeon driver for linux (.run package) I am not able to boot back up, I cannot see the screen. I tried running

Code: Select all

aticonfig --initial -f
Which is what the installer said to do if it fails and that did not work either.

I boot back up and went to Mint Recovery mode and tried the "auto graphics repair" to no avail.

Anyone know how I can get back in?

Thanks

This seems to be the best bet for graphics so far:
