Hardware Acceleration IS enabled on all my rigs, and they ALL freeze with every browser except for Firefox & Slimjet.
Go figure.

Well, I'm using Slimjet until further notice. No freezes and I have found I like it a lot and does what I need to be done.

Still have freezing of browser and sometimes computer.
acceleration on or off doesn't matter
disabled their new tab freeze feature made no difference
No updates showing in update manager.
Anywhere else to get the update mentioned?
Firefox is still flawless.

Update to Chrome 79.0.3945.130-1 just came across. I installed it and hope it's fixed.

I am on Chromium and it just froze up again. Sometimes it lasts for a few seconds and sometimes I have to reboot.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Chrome is freezing even with less than 3 tabs open. Badly.

A quick memory check shows it is taking nearly all 4 GB of my desktop install.

It's not quite as bad here on the laptop... version 79.0.3945.130 here, I'll check the one on the desktop next time I'm on it.

There has to be a fix other than finding a way to downgrade.

I don't know if this has any effect or not. I only run Chromium in incognito mode. Has anyone with problems tried this to see if it makes a difference? I use a custom command for my launchers like this example: chromium-browser %U -incognito

very interesting. I opened numerous youtube videos while using incognito and had no issues with freezing...
the question is... why?

The freezing still persists.

If they can't figure this out, I am seriously considering dumping Chrome (even as invested as I am in their ecosystem) and moving to Firefox. (From what I read here, the freezing problem affects all Chromium-based browsers.)

I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully move my stored Chrome passwords to Firefox, so that hasn't happened yet.
