Canon TS 6151 wireless printer SOLVED

Post by fred19 »

Mint KDE 18.1
I am trying to get a Canon Ts 6151 printer/scanner to work wirelessly. The printer part works fine.

I have installed Airscan and the scanner is recognized by Simplescan, when I click scan the scanner works and the Simplescan circle whirls round and then the window disappears.

Any ideas?

Thanks

It was for a HP scanner so maybe that is the problem.

Maybe it is the problem, but good for you that you tried. Using Airscan puts you on the frontline of technology when it comes to scanning; but let's see if we can get somewhere. Please post the outputs of

Code: Select all

avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
and

I have a Canon TS9160 and I never installed airscan. My scanner works ok .Try d/l and installing cjifilter from canon. You could try updating your kernel but I don't know what version you have installed.
Just noticed you have Mint 18.1 installed, maybe you need to update to a later version of mint to fix the problem.

Having installed Airscan, it is perplexing that the output of such a simple command cannot be provided

A different device from that of the OP. Is that useful information? Having a TS6151 that worked over the network would be important information and reduce the need for installing Airscan.

You haven't said if you have installed Scangear MP or not. Canon scanners won't scan properly unless scangear is installed.

Kato I did load Scangear but the same problem. The scanner is listed, click scan, the scanner starts, then the program crashes.

Thanks all for your help.

Thank you, fred19. Let's see where either of these two commands gets you:

Code: Select all

scanimage -d 'airscan:Canon TS6100 series' > image.pnm

Code: Select all

simlpe-scan 'airscan:Canon TS6100 series'
Actually, it should be sufficient to do

Code: Select all

scanimage > image.pnm
and

Code: Select all

simple-scan

Thank you for this level of feedback. Apologies for my typo with simple-scan.

From what you say, the scanner does its thing. That is, it moves forwards and back across the platen and makes the usual scanner noises. Does scanimage produce an output file?

Code: Select all

ls -l image.pnm
You can view the file with

Code: Select all

pix image.pnm
Does it show anything sensible?

Thanks
My name is Alexander Pevzner, and I'm the author of sane-airscan.

This is definitely a compatibility issue between libjpeg used at compilation time and libjpeg used at runtime.

Please note, I don't provide Mint packages (mostly because openSUSE build services doesn't), so I want to as you a question: what package do you use?

image.pnm has zero size. Scanning has failed, even though the machine might have gone through the motions. Very disappointing.

Hi Fred,

first of all, I want to say, that I've tested this package on Ubuntu 18.04, and there it works.

The problem is not in your device. Your device scans and sends an image. The problem arrives, when my driver tries to unpack the received JPEG image. For some strange reason, libjpeg, installed on your system, is not compatible with Ubuntu's libjpeg, used to build the driver.

Now let's try to fix it on Mint.

May I ask you to show me an output of the following command:
ldd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-airscan.so.1
Locked
