Unable to connect using Wifi

Post by JoDove »

I have recently installed Linux on my laptop. I have been trying unsuccessfully to connect to the internet via WiFi.
I have logged in as root using the command /usr/sbin/wifi-radar.
I get the message "ValueError: too many values to unpack".
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?

Hello JoDove,

unfortunately the inxi output doesn't show, which Realtek wifi card you have. Can you please run and show the results of the following terminal command:

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2
(copy & paste it in the terminal with right-click mouse menu)

EddieGBU,

You need the RTL8723DE driver, #8 here:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... k.html#ID8

If you have problems after it installs, see #2 there.

Hello JoDove,

thanks for that information :)
I've had internet problems
Are they solved?

You have an Realtek RTL8723DE Wifi card and you can recognize it from the "d723" here:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec:d723]
If you have no driver installed until now, see sleeper12's description and link from above:

My Dell has LM 18.3 Cinnamon, which works fine using Network Manager!
Same laptop, save hard drive, with LM 18.3 Mate, cannot connect using Wifi.
LM 18.3 Mate doesn't have Network Manager, so I cannot connect to wifi.
Out put from inxi -Fxz gets:

Thanks in advance.

PS How can I get "Network Manager" into Mate?

Hello ichido,

because you have another wifi card and issue as in this thread, it's better to open an own one with your informations from above. If you can't use your wired ethernet connection, you can get a temporarily internet connection with a mobile phone and USB tethering using the phone's wifi. Then you can make your updates in between and open the new thread :)

USB Tethering Android

1. connect your phone to your computer via USB (your phone charger hopefully has a usable, detachable USB cable)
2. go to Settings > Wireless & Networks in your mobile phone, there to ...More
3. go to tethering & mobile hotspot
4. activate USB tethering

USB Tethering Iphone

1. connect your phone to your computer via USB (your phone charger hopefully has a usable, detachable USB cable)
2. go to Settings > Personal Hotspot > Activate in your phone
3. activate USB only

Not sure where you got that last command (git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au.git).

It should be:

Code: Select all

 git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
Continue with that & see how it goes.
