Please Help me turn on my Microphone! [Solved] (To my relief!)

Post by Amii_Leigh »

Hi all,

I'm running Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3 and I swear everything works fine.
The only thing is, I'd like to turn my microphone back on. It's plugged in and I can hear it when I tap it with my fingers through the speakers, but I can't get an applications to see the microphone to use it. I know it's a setting I changed but I've forgotten what the h*ck it was. Please help me turn my microphone on...

See if setting up using pavucontrol helps.

I already tried that. The volume control for it is greyed out.

Re: Please Help me turn on my Microphone!

Hi Amii,

Let's see the output of pacmd list-sources and pacmd list-cards please. It's possible your Profile has changed to Analog Output instead of Analog Duplex (which is input and output) which you can check on the Configuration tab of pavucontrol. That would explain the mic not being accessible, but I'm suspecting it's not going to be that simple.

I think you mentioned the one thing I needed to know!
It was set for Analog Stereo Output instead of Duplex! So I switched that, and NOW it works! Thank you!
Sorry to be a bother, really!

You were no bother at all! Glad you got it sorted out. :D

(Even more glad it was such a simple fix!)
