Linux Newbie - First Install Done!

Post by italia »

Just installed 19.3 Cinnamon on a really old HP Laptop in dual boot with Windows XP (yes, XP!). Having had corporate IT responsibility since the mid-80's with MS-DOS, Windows, DEC VMS (OpenVMS), Mac OS/X, Windows Servers ..., I felt like it wouldn't be a big deal to try it out. Ran into a few snafus with the laptop BIOS not able to boot from USB so found Unetbootin which worked OK. Then had a Broadcom Wifi driver issue that took a while to figure out, and ended up having to learn to edit /Etc and blacklist.conf instances. All in all though it could have been worse, but having to dig into Terminal and use sudo commands has accelerated the learning curve. Who knows, I may end up liking Mint enough to ditch OS/X on my Mac Mini. Looking forward to learning more!
